Barcelona is easy to visit, but in the tourist areas there are thefts from vehicles and pickpockets. A few simple habits will help you avoid almost all nasty surprises.

Where to sleep
Stay overnight somewhere set up for it: a car park, aire or campsite. If you can, choose a site that is fenced, has CCTV or is monitored. On the street your motorhome is more exposed, and camping on public streets is not allowed in Barcelona.

Keep the motorhome locked, with nothing on show
- Don’t leave bags, phones, cameras or documents on show, and that includes the dashboard.
- Close the doors, windows and rooflights, even if you’re only away for a moment.
- Carry your documents and money with you; leave only the essentials in the vehicle.
- If someone tells you that you have a flat tyre or asks for help at a petrol station or traffic lights, don’t leave the vehicle open or your things unattended while you look.
On the metro and in the street
- Wear your rucksack on your front on the metro and in crowds.
- Don’t leave your phone on the table at outdoor cafés.
- On La Rambla, at the Sagrada Família and on the beaches, be even more careful.
- On the beach, don’t leave your things unattended.
If something happens
- Emergencies: call 112. They answer in several languages.
- To report a theft, go to a station of the Mossos d’Esquadra, the police force of Catalonia.
- If your passport is stolen, tell your consulate too.
- Keep the phone number of the place where you’re staying: they can help you with the most urgent things.
